TTL

TTL is a value in an Internet Protocol (IP) packet that tells a network router whether or not the packet should be discarded or forwarded.

In general, the TTL is set by the sender of the packet and decreased by every router that forwards the packet. When the TTL reaches 0, the packet is discarded and an error message is returned to the sender.
